The Official Methane Zone Map of Los Angeles

The City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Engineering, Department of Building and Safety has published a Methane Zone Map of the city limits.

This map is predominantly based on the location of historical crude oil and natural gas extraction wells.  Additionally, according to LADBS notes, historical and current landfill areas are also incorporated into this map.

What does this mean?

Areas highlighted in pink are methane zones.  Additionally, areas outlined in purple are methane buffer zones.  The areas highlighted in yellow are LA City properties which do not fall within methane zones or methane buffer zones.

All areas highlighted in pink, and outlined in purple will require methane testing and/or methane mitigation for building projects.
